Childhood to university – raised in Christian homes in differing parts of the United States, Bill and Cherry both accepted Christ as their personal Savior at very young ages. By the time they were ready to enter university studies, the Lord had called each of them serve Him as missionaries. University studies – Bill attended Biola University in La Mirada, California, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Humanities (with a concentration in Spanish). Cherry studied three years of nursing at the University of Northern Colorado, and then felt the Lord leading her to switch majors and attend Colorado State University, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics (with a concentration in adult education). Seminary studies and marriage – upon graduation from university, Bill and Cherry both enrolled in the missions program at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (TEDS) in Deerfield, Illinois. Here they met for the first time, and in 1978 they were married. Both graduated from TEDS in 1980 (Bill with a Master of Divinity degree in Missions, and Cherry with a Master of Arts in Religion degree in Missions).
