Beginning missionary service – in 1981 Bill and Cherry were accepted as missionary candidates with the Evangelical Free Church of America. A time of support team building followed, and in 1983 they entered language school. Upon graduation from language school in 1984 they departed for their first term in Venezuela.

Theological Education and the Seminary – From 1984 to 1988 Bill and Cherry worked in the area of basic Bible studies through Theological Education by Extension, teaching in one of the training centers in La Victoria, Venezuela. In 1985 Bill also began teaching Church History at the Associated Evangelical Seminary in Maracay (a neighboring city about 45 minutes away). As the Seminary expanded its training program, Bill began to teach courses in the area of Missions as well. He continued as full-time professor of Missions and Church History through the year 2000. During these years he also served at the Seminary as Academic Dean (from 1991 to 1993) and Registrar (from 1994 to 1997). And Bill and Cherry have served as missions advisors to numerous churches from 1991 to the present.
